BLACK NECKED GREBE

I spent two weeks in Brittany in France in March, sadly the weather was dreadful, but I was delighted one afternoon at low tide, at Arradon, to be able to take these pictures of two Grebe, in the harbour. The first day I tried to take some pictures, they were driven out of the harbour by a sailing instructor in a motor boat, but the following day it was more peaceful and they were there again, and relatively close. You have to be quick when taking Grebe, as of course, they are divers, and are more often under the water than above it! I think of all the water birds, Grebe really are one of the most attractive species. Here they are coming into Summer plumage with the golden band of feathers extending from the eye. The vivid red eye adds to the attraction of this bird
