KIMCOMANIA
MERESANDS WOOD

I spent a couple of days at Meresands Woods trying to take some reaonable shots of Kingfisher. This is a reliable site, but it is very much a waiting game. Frequently the Kingfishers can be seen but are too far away to take a decent picture and things were not helped this year by the dreadful Summer., so very often the sky was very grey and overcast. I made my observations from the Rufford Hide. The first two photographs were taken with the Kingfisher on a perch a little too far away from my position but it still showed off this attractive little bird quite reasonably.

These captured the male bird much closer to the hide - the first being a front view!!

then a portrait!!

and finally my favourite shot of the day showing the hazy lily pads in the background

It was really great, in June 2009, to be able to get a Kingfisher much closer to the bank!

THE PINEWOODS AT FORMBY
Close to Meresands woods are the Pinewoods at Formby which is one of the few sites in England where Red Squirrel can be seen. Again - a poor day weather wise - but these are a few of the pictures I took
