LA BRENNE 2007

CIRL BUNTING

I have never managed to photograph a Cirl Bunting in England as they are pretty rare so I was delighted to be able to take these picturees on a visit to La Brenne in France in May 2007. Similar to a Yellow Hammer, they will happily sit on the top of a bush whilst their picture is being taken and seem totally unconcerned by the clicks of the camera. (Canon 20d 100-400 IS lens)

RED-BACKED SHRIKE

There were a pair of Red-backed Shrike very close to where I took the pictures of the Cirl Bunting. These are such beautiful birds, unfortunately they were some distance away, and this picture was taken using my 'scope and the contax camera - digiscoping! They were feeding youngsters - this one is the male. Both birds were very active and we were able to watch them for some time
